Pledge the Gift of Life

Each year, the lives of thousands of people across the country are saved because someone made the choice to become an organ donor. In April, Allegheny Health Network is honored to celebrate National Donate Life Month and pay tribute to all of those who have bestowed the precious gift of life to another through organ donation. Johnstown Tribune-Democrat: Pirates Notebook: Doumit gets clearance to begin exercises

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

By John Perrotto

Ryan Doumit will need an aide today when he warms up a pitcher for the first time in more than a month but he won’t be complaining.

“I can’t even begin to tell you how tough it’s been to sit and not be able to do anything for a month,” the Pirates catcher said Friday night before the opener of a three-game series against the Houston Astros at PNC Park.

Doumit has received clearance to begin range-of-motion exercises with his right wrist, which he fractured April 20 while swinging at a pitch. While he can warm up pitchers, he won’t be allowed to throw the ball back.

Doumit was examined Thursday by hand specialist Mark Baratz, who performed surgery on the wrist at Allegheny General Hospital.

“I think he was more excited about the way it’s healing than I was,” Doumit said with a smile. “He said everything is going well and there is no reason to believe anything will change. It was good to hear. The sooner I can get back to playing the better it will be because if it were up to me I’d go out there and try to play right now.”
