Pledge the Gift of Life

Each year, the lives of thousands of people across the country are saved because someone made the choice to become an organ donor. In April, Allegheny Health Network is honored to celebrate National Donate Life Month and pay tribute to all of those who have bestowed the precious gift of life to another through organ donation. Visit AHNdonate.org to learn more and register to be an organ donor.

WPXI-TV: Weight-loss drug success story

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

A new drug still waiting FDA approval could provide relief for many who struggle to lose weight.

The drug is called Contrave. It is a combination of two existing drugs: Wellbutrin and Naltrexone. The combination targets the brain in the area that controls appetite and metabolism.

Some local doctors are skeptical. “No question we have an epidemic in this country of obesity. I don’t think it’s the magic bullet though,” said Dr. Mark Itskowitz of Allegheny General Hospital.
