Allegheny General Named Among 100 Top Performing Hospitals in Orthopaedics
Friday, August 10th, 2012
Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) has been recognized on the Becker's Hospital Review list of 100 Hospitals with Great Orthopaedic Programs for 2012.
Hospitals included on this list have orthopaedic surgery departments with outstanding reputations and often include physicians who treat professional athletes, engage in cutting-edge research and perform a large number of surgeries every year.
Allegheny General’s experienced orthopaedic surgeons have advanced training in less-invasive and minimally-invasive surgical techniques and the program serves as the official medical provider of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
“We are very pleased to be ranked among the nation’s premier orthopaedics and sports medicine programs by Becker’s Hospital Review,” said Patrick J. DeMeo, MD, Chairman, Department of Orthopaedics, West Penn Allegheny Health System and Medical Director of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
“This honor truly reflects the dedication of our multidisciplinary team of surgeons, physicians, nurses, physician assistants and rehabilitation specialists who work together to develop coordinated treatment plans specifically designed to help each patient achieve optimal outcomes.”
AGH’s orthopaedics and sports medicine capabilities have garnered numerous additional honors both regionally and nationally.
AGH recently was ranked among the nation’s top 50 centers for orthopaedic surgery by U.S. News and World Report. Fewer than 150 hospitals nationwide achieved a national top 50 ranking in at least one of the 16 medical specialties evaluated in the 2012-13 report.
AGH also has been named a Blue Distinction CenterTM for spine surgery and hip and knee replacement by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. Our surgeons are recognized by their peers as experts in their field, including Mark Baratz, MD, Stephen Conti, MD, Patrick DeMeo, MD, Dean Sotereanos, MD, and Nicholas Sotereanos, MD, who were named to Pittsburgh Magazine’s prestigious “Best Doctors” listing for 2012.
