Newsmaker: Dr. James "Jack" Wilberger 

Age: 55

Residence: Sewickley Heights

Family: Wife, Diane Wilberger; children, Matthew, 25, Adam, 22, and Melanie, 19

Occupation: Wilberger is a specialist in the field of neurotrauma and has been involved in efforts to improve the treatment and outcomes for spinal cord and head injuries. He is professor and chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at Allegheny General Hospital, the western regional campus of Drexel University's College of Medicine.

Background: Wilberger received his undergraduate degree from the University of Richmond and graduated from the Medical College of Virginia. He completed neurosurgical residency training at the University of Pittsburgh. Wilberger is vice chairman of the board of directors of the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation and serves on the board of directors of the Allegheny County Medical Society. He is the author and editor of four current neurosurgical texts.

Notable: He has been named chairman of the department of neurosurgery at Drexel University College of Medicine. He is the first Pittsburgh-based Drexel University College of Medicine professor to be appointed as an academic department chairman for the Philadelphia-based campus.
