Pledge the Gift of Life

Each year, the lives of thousands of people across the country are saved because someone made the choice to become an organ donor. In April, Allegheny Health Network is honored to celebrate National Donate Life Month and pay tribute to all of those who have bestowed the precious gift of life to another through organ donation. Visit AHNdonate.org to learn more and register to be an organ donor.

WPXI-TV: AGH prepares for worst-case G-20 scenario

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

PITTSBURGH -- One Pittsburgh hospital is putting itself to the test in preparation for a worst case scenario during the G-20 in Pittsburgh later this month.

Allegheny General Hospital's medical staff practices the scenarios more than a few times a year, but this time they're preparing specifically for the G-20.

"Really, just gives us practice in realizing the potential of all the things that can go wrong," said Dr. Fred Harchelroad.

Doctors said their biggest challenge is communication. They'll have groups of doctors in the field, set up across Pittsburgh calling in cases before they arrive.

AGH also has a decontamination unit set up. It's where patients will go if they have been sprayed with any sort of gas.

The decontamination unit takes about minutes to go through.
