Pledge the Gift of Life

Each year, the lives of thousands of people across the country are saved because someone made the choice to become an organ donor. In April, Allegheny Health Network is honored to celebrate National Donate Life Month and pay tribute to all of those who have bestowed the precious gift of life to another through organ donation. WTAE-TV: Pittsburgh hospitals hold pre-G-20 disaster drills

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

With the G-20 summit just weeks away, area hospitals are preparing for any disaster.

On Wednesday, Allegheny General Hospital and West Penn Hospital held a mass casualty emergency drill.

The drill focused on operations in the emergency room, the burn unit, the command center and a decontamination area.

"We worry about pretty much anything. People have unknown fluids sprayed on them at some of these protest sites. A lot of times they're not toxic but you don't know that going into it, you always worry about chemical agents they may bring to the party," said AGH's Dr. Tom Stein.

The hospitals will also have extra staff on hand during the G-20 economic summit, which runs Sept. 24-25 in downtown Pittsburgh.
