Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Sports head injuries can ignite brain overreaction

A theory published in  the journal Surgical Neurology International states that repeated minor trauma to head can prompt the brain to "overreact," releasing chemicals meant to protect the injured area, but never beginning the healing process.

AGH neurosurgeon Jack Wilberger says the theory has merit, but needs to be investigated among larger patient populations.
