Pledge the Gift of Life

Each year, the lives of thousands of people across the country are saved because someone made the choice to become an organ donor. In April, Allegheny Health Network is honored to celebrate National Donate Life Month and pay tribute to all of those who have bestowed the precious gift of life to another through organ donation. Visit AHNdonate.org to learn more and register to be an organ donor.

“Hats on the Catwalk,” a Celebration of Breast Cancer Survivorship, Comes to Allegheny General Hospital Oct. 15

Monday, September 30th, 2013

‘Warriors in Pink’ Quilt Will Be Presented to AGH in Recognition of its Care for Breast Cancer Patients
PITTSBURGH - Hundreds of breast cancer survivors are expected to attend “Hats on the Catwalk,” a celebration of breast cancer survivorship on Tuesday, Oct 15, at Allegheny General Hospital (AGH), with this year’s event featuring the unveiling of the 2013 Ford Warriors in Pink Quilt, given to AGH for its care and empowerment of breast cancer patients.
The Warrior Quilt is made of individually decorated fabric squares with messages of hope and inspiration which are collected at Pittsburgh’s annual Race for the Cure and from local community groups.
Volunteer quilters, most of them breast cancer survivors, stitch them together into beautiful quilts that are donated to local breast cancer treatment centers and often used as wall hangings providing hope, inspiration and comfort to those undergoing treatment. The Warrior Quilt Program was created by a group of 81 local Ford dealers known as the Neighborhood Ford Store.
WTAE-TV’s Sally Wiggin will serve as master of ceremonies for the “Hats on the Catwalk” event, which begins at 5 p.m. A keynote speaker will discuss issues of survivorship at 7 p.m. and a Chinese auction and educational tables will also be available.
Festivities will cap off at 7:30 p.m. with some of Allegheny Health Network’s top cancer physicians taking to the catwalk to model festive hats designed by survivors and friends for this event. Participants will include Kathleen Erb, MD; Larissa Greenberg, MD; Thomas Julian, MD; Donald Keenan, MD; David Parda, MD; William Poller, MD; Jane Raymond, MD; Carol Slomski, MD and Mark Trombetta, MD.
“Hats on the Catwalk” is free and includes heavy hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. The event is sponsored in part by the Allegheny General Hospital Auxiliary. For more information, call 412.359.8177
