Expanding Our Care

At Allegheny General Hospital–Suburban Campus, we understand that treating a patient includes many factors — technology, compassion, communication and concern for both the patient’s physical and emotional well-being.

The merger between Suburban General Hospital and Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) has provided the resources to treat patients with an even higher level of orthopaedic care usually found only in large academic medical centers.

In addition to technological improvements, patients now have convenient access to renowned surgeons like Patrick DeMeo, M.D., medical director for the Pittsburgh Pirates, who is performing surgery at the site.

Joining Dr. DeMeo are other orthopaedists specializing in the areas of the foot and ankle, spine, total joint replacement, hand and upper extremities as well as sports medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation.

The team of orthopaedic surgeons are supported by nurses, therapists and other health-care professionals dedicated to restoring you to maximum possible function.

Commitment to Excellence

As part of a multi-million dollar investment in the Suburban Campus, Allegheny General Hospital has constructed a state-of-the art surgical suite to support the orthopaedic surgery program. The new operating rooms provide surgeons with the most advanced arthroscopic technology — a miniature, high definition optical system that allows surgeons to see inside the body and perform surgical procedures through tiny incisions.

For the patient, that means less blood loss, a shorter hospital stay, faster recovery and less scarring. Fully integrated and computerized, the new operating rooms afford voice activated, centralized control of virtually every vital technology, including the arthroscopic cameras, light sources, electro surgical scalpels and table positioning.

The technology allows the surgical team to preprogram medical device settings to meet the precise needs of individual surgeons or requirements for different procedures. Complete system set up occurs instantaneously at the touch of a button, streamlining the surgical process. Linked to other departments at the Suburban Campus, as well as at the AGH main campus, the new operating rooms allow the surgical team to electronically summon a patient’s diagnostic images or medical records, consult directly with off-site specialists and transmit real time audio and video for procedures to conferences or classrooms virtually anywhere in the world for purposes of medical education.

Compassionate, Sophisticated Care

As the multi-million dollar renovation plan continues to physically transform the Suburban Campus and new programs and technology are added, one aspect of operations will remain unchanged — the personalized approach to treating patients with kindness and concern.

This will remain as important as technical and clinical expertise. If you’re in need of sophisticated orthopaedic care, consider Allegheny General Hospital–Suburban Campus. We are closer to home, closer tohealing and closer to the life you were meant to live.
