Bloodless Medicine
Our Staff
Jan Seski, MD, serves as medical director of the Center for Bloodless Medicine and Surgery.
Dr. Seski is a gynecologic oncologist who is also a respected national leader in bloodless medicine and surgery. He developed an interest in bloodless surgery while a faculty member at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in the late 1970’s. Along with his colleagues there, Dr. Seski pioneered a hemodilution technique that enabled them to successfully operate on patients who did not accept blood transfusions.
Rita Schwab, CPMSM, is the program director for the Center.
Ms. Schwab oversees the day-to-day operations of the Center and serves as an educational resource for individuals who wish to learn more about transfusion options. She is also an instrumental part of a committee to investigate how blood conservation principals used within the Center for Bloodless Medicine and Surgery can be applied in other departments at Allegheny General.
Rita can be reached at the Center for Bloodless Medicine and Surgery at (412) 359-8787, toll free at 1-877-284-2100, or via email.
