Burn Center

In March 2013, West Penn Burn Center very proudly achieved adult and pediatric verification status for the sixth time from the American Burn Association (ABA); verification is recognition for excellence in burn care management. The team at the West Penn Burn Center, led by Dr. Ariel Aballay, demonstrates how commitment and determination can fuel the drive to overcome obstacles and achieve a goal. Our goal is to ensure the best possible outcomes, both functionally and cosmetically, for our patients and to do so as quickly as possible without compromising care.

West Penn Burn Center not only deals with the immediate crisis of burn injuries, but also the important psychosocial dynamics of a burn victim's rehabilitation and return to the community. The team recognizes that healing is not only physical, but emotional as well. West Penn Burn Center has developed many contributing arms to make that restoration possible.

In addition to efforts aimed at improving the delivery of care inside the Burn Center, the team recognizes the importance of providing ongoing education for healthcare professionals outside the Burn Center. For patients with burn injuries, the initial care always begins outside a specialized burn center, either at the scene or in an Emergency Department. West Penn Burn Center dedicates resources and outreach efforts toward burn care education for healthcare professionals in the tri-state area.

West Penn Hospital has been lauded as a high-performing medical center across multiple clinical specialties in the latest ranking of the country’s best hospitals by U.S. News and World Report.
