Burn Center

Burn Concern

Burn Concern is a volunteer support group created by, and for, survivors or loved ones of survivors of burn injuries or Steven-Johnson syndrome.

Our group is sponsored by The Western Pennsylvania Hospital Foundation. We know firsthand that recovery doesn't end when you leave the burn unit. We offer you support for your lifelong journey as a burn survivor and/or loved one.

Our four volunteer directors have a combined 45+ years of experience as burn survivors or loved ones of survivors. We can relate “100 percent” and help you deal with the issues you will face.

We offer meetings, events, and one-on-one support for patients of West Penn Burn Center.

Burn Concern meetings are held the third Saturday of each month at 2 p.m. in the West Penn Burn Center conference room within West Penn Hospital. Meetings are open to all current Burn Center patients and to survivors and family members. Light refreshments are served.

At these meetings we encourage the sharing of stories and provide support. In addition, a Burn Center professional offers information on a topic to increase knowledge of burn recovery. For many, these meetings are the first opportunity to meet and share with others who have experienced a burn trauma. We discuss personal accounts of survival, recovery and reintroduction into the real world. Our meetings are casual and the setting is comfortable; you may participate as much as you desire or just observe and listen.

Upcoming meetings:

  • January 18
  • February 15

You may also participate via our telephone “meet-me” line: Call 724.444.7444 and when prompted enter call code “123574#” and then enter “1#”.

Events are being planned for burn survivors from western Pennsylvania and the region to meet, greet and learn. Watch for more information!

One-on-One Patient Support

Our four volunteer directors are committed to supporting burn/Steven-Johnson syndrome patients and family members through personal visits, emails and phone, as well as monthly Burn Concern meetings. We want to help you through your recovery journey.
