West Penn Burn Center is based at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital, an academic medical center that is part of West Penn Allegheny Health System. Founded in 1848 as Pittsburgh’s first chartered public hospital, West Penn Hospital has earned an international reputation for excellence and innovation in the care of patients, education and research.

The Western Pennsylvania Hospital is the first and only hospital in western Pennsylvania to be awarded Magnet recognition status by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, in 2006. This prestigious designation recognizes excellence in nursing services.
West Penn Burn Center has state-of-the-art inpatient and outpatient facilities and experienced specialty staff who care for adults and children with the most severe burn injuries (ABA/ACS "verification") from referral and admission through discharge and followup care.
Inpatient Services
West Penn Burn Center's inpatient facilities include:
- 14 patient beds
- Private, temperature-controlled, ventilated rooms
- Six specially equipped beds for the most critically injured
- Advanced treatment rooms
- Comfortable family waiting room
- Children’s playroom
- Facilities to treat thermal, electrical or chemical injuries or skin disorders
- Services for inhalation injuries
Outpatient Services
West Penn Burn Center's Outpatient Burn Clinic offers outpatient burn care and follow-up treatment to burn patients of all ages, including:
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Nutrition services
- Social services
- Compression management garments
