Nuclear Imaging
Nuclear Imaging uses a small amount of radioactive matter to trace blood as it flows through the muscle or walls of the heart. This helps to assess heart function and determines whether more investigation is needed.
Program areas include:
- SPECT Stress Perfusion Testing, which helps to evaluate damage that might have been caused by a myocardial infarction (heart attack) and to assess the presence and extent of myocardial ischemia (reduced blood flow due to obstruction in the vessels). With the increasing awareness of radiation burden on patients, we optimize stress protocols to deliver the least amount of radiation while obtaining all pertinent results needed for the care of the patient.
- Myocardial Viability Testing, helpful for making decisions whether to choose angioplasty, bypass or transplant for heart failure patients.
- MUGA (Multiple Gated Acquisition) Testing, is useful for obtaining a quantitative, accurate, left ventricular ejection fraction.
Most studies can be performed within 24 hours and, in many cases, we offer same-day service. Reports are generated and disseminated within hours of test completion.
