Services
Bringing together medical professionals who specialize in gastrointestinal health and nutrition, the Allegheny Center for Digestive Health combines the latest diagnostic therapies and treatment methods with individualized care.
Clinical Nutrition Program

The Clinical Nutrition Program offers nutrition counseling and programs that address the special nutrition needs of the elderly, athletes, women, those needing to lose weight or those suffering from debilitating diseases, such as cancer. The service provides consultation and management services for home-based nutritional programs and hospital-based nutritional therapies, including parenteral and enteral nutrition.

Therapeutic Endoscopy Program
Our team combines skilled specialists in the field of therapeutic endoscopy for the provision of therapeutic endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and endoscopic ultrasound techniques. Special core endoscopic competencies revolve around therapeutic/
interventional endoscopy with a focus on sphincter of Oddi manometry; mechanical lithotripsy of large common bile duct stones; endotherapy for chronic pancreatitis; biliary/pancreatic sphincterotomy; spyglass technologies; endoscopic mucosal resection; dilation; biliary mesh stent insertion; endoscopic ultrasound with fine needle aspiration; and celiac plexus block for relief of pain from chronic pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer.
The Division of Gastroenterology also uses some of the latest endoscopic techniques available for the management of Barrett’s esophagus and precancerous tissue, including early esophageal cancer. This can be treated on an outpatient basis using radiofrequency ablation - the HALO procedure - delivered through an endoscope. With this method, physicians are able to destroy abnormal tissue using radiofrequency waves in a relatively painless fashion. This procedure has been shown to eliminate abnormal tissue in more than 98 percent of individuals and can reduce the risk of developing esophageal cancer.
