Endocrinology
The Division of Endocrinology assists referring physicians in the diagnosis and management of disorders of the endocrine system. The endocrine system is made up of glands that secrete hormones into the bloodstream to regulate a variety of body functions. Disorders include:
- diabetes
- hypoglycemia
- thyroid disorders
- adrenal problems
- gonadal conditions
- adrenal, parathyroid, pituitary and thyroid cancer
The Joslin Diabetes Center affiliates at West Penn Allegheny Health System offer comprehensive outpatient services for patients with diabetes mellitus, including:
- nutrition education
- medication management education
- blood glucose monitoring
- self-management of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia
- complication prevention and treatment
- psychosocial adjustment
- family involvement
- use of healthcare systems information
- community resources information
