Forbes Hospice
Friends of Forbes Hospice
Friends of Forbes Hospice, a volunteer auxiliary, started in 1981. The purpose is to promote and foster Forbes Hospice as a regional program in Western Pennsylvania and the hospice concept on a state and national basis.
The main function is to develop special projects that benefit Forbes Hospice.
Eugene Dugan served as our first president until 1983. From 1983 to 1986, Betty J. Wintner Jacobson served. Peggy Bitton became our president in 1986.
Our membership has grown from 101 to 600 members. Over our 26-year period of existence, we have raised over two million dollars.
We completely refurbished the former hospice's site to include six electric beds, a new kitchen, wallpaper, carpeting, a solarium with furniture and art work, a therapeutic bath tub and many more amenities.
We continue to underwrite Forbes Hospice's needs and to support its Respite Care Program. This program gives caregivers of patients who are at the end of life precious time to attend to family needs.
All of our accomplishments would not have been possible without the support of our members and the community. For that we thank you.
Mission Statement:
The Friends of Forbes Hospice is an auxiliary, all-volunteer service organization supporting Forbes Hospice's patients, families and functions. We primarily raise funds for Forbes Hospice's Respite Care Fund by means of several yearly money-raising activities. Through partnerships with our members and the community at large, we solicit funds that are presented to Forbes Hospice to meet additional needs and services.
