Joint and Spine Center
About Us
The Joint and Spine Center at Forbes Regional Hospital combines state-of-the-art orthopaedic and neurosurgical care with a treatment model that focuses on the patient, not the procedure. This patient-centered philosophy supports rapid recovery in an environment of camaraderie and individual attention. Center staff share their expertise in a team approach, delivering the highest quality of care in a hospital that’s close to home.
A Dedicated Facility
The Joint and Spine Center at Forbes Regional is a dedicated in-patient unit with private and semi-private rooms. Rooms are equipped with flat-screen TVs, furniture designed for those who have undergone joint or spine surgery and freezers so patients always have cold-therapy supplies available.
The Center’s nurses’ station makes it possible for staff to respond swiftly to the needs of patients, and the patient-visitor lounge welcomes family members both during and after a patient’s surgery. A therapy gym on the unit allows therapists to coordinate physical and occupational therapy sessions with pain management schedules. Center staff schedule gym therapy sessions so patients can support and encourage each other with friendly competitions that help them reach recovery goals with laughs instead of groans.
A Seasoned Staff
Center staff includes board-certified surgical specialists, physicians, nurses, patient care assistants, physical therapists and occupational therapists. These specialists work as a team to deliver individualized, concentrated care to patients with similar conditions, making the most of each care provider’s clinical experience and professional training.
The Road to Recovery
Staff of the Joint and Spine Center help each patient take the first step toward health before entering the hospital – and continue the journey with each patient after discharge.
Patients planning knee or hip replacement, for example, are encouraged to attend a free pre-surgery class, A Step in the Right Direction. Because support, encouragement and assistance are crucial to recovery, the healing environment extends to the patient’s family, too. Center staff identify a family ‘coach,’ who learns how to prepare the home for the patient’s return and how to supervise the patient’s exercise and recovery. Each family coach has a Center staff member as a mentor, and a case manager and a social worker are involved with the patient and family throughout the process.
A Step in the Right Direction is held every Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Forbes Regional Hospital. For more information on the class or to register, please call 1.877.284.2000.
Reaching Out
The Joint and Spine Center will continue to enhance its community outreach activities. As the region’s over-55 segment of the population swells with baby boomers, programs on spine and joint protection, osteoarthritis and home safety will become a vital component of keeping the Forbes’ community healthy and independent.
