Amy Kao, MD, MPH
Dr. Kao serves as Director of Biomedical Informatics for the Lupus Center of Excellence at WPAHS. Prior to joining WPAHS, Dr. Kao was an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. She is board-certified in internal medicine and rheumatology.
She earned her medical degree from the State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn, followed by a master’s degree of public health in epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh. She completed internal medicine internship and residency and a rheumatology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Dr. Kao was awarded the American College of Rheumatology’s (ACR) Fellow Award and selected for the ACR/ European League Against Rheumatism’s International Exchange Scholar program. An avid researcher, Dr. Kao has published more than 40 original peer-reviewed articles, reviews and book chapters related to lupus and autoimmune disorders.
She is a member of the American College of Rheumatology, American Medical Association, American College of Physicians, and American Heart Association. She also serves on the Medical-Scientific Advisory Council of the Lupus Foundation of America.
