Our Family — Women's and Infants' Care Center
Having a baby is one of life's most cherished experiences — an experience that can be made more wonderful when parents feel good about their pregnancy, delivery and raising and nurturing their newborn. The dedicated, professional staff (each averaging 20 or more years maternity experience) ensure that mother and family get the best, most loving and comfortable start in life.
The birth experience begins as the woman and her partner arrive at the Center. At Forbes Regional Hospital, the new family receives quality, comprehensive care in a setting that feels like home. Beautiful, spacious LDRP suites are furnished with comfortable birthing/postpartum beds, built-in sleeper-sofas for partners, rocking chairs, armoires with flat screen TVs and VCR/DVD combos and other amenities. Along with these comforts, a state-of-the-art security system is behind the scenes to safeguard the baby at all times.
If the laboring woman is experiencing back pain, she can slip into the medically designed Jacuzzi® tub to ease her discomfort. These tubs are unique because they are 100 percent sterilizable. Emergency equipment is discretely hidden, but right at hand.
Additionally, preoperative, surgical, postoperative and recovery facilities are located within the Women's and Infants' Care Center, and anesthesia coverage is available 24/7.
Family Centered — Single Room Maternity Care
Forbes Regional Hospital staff views childbirth as wellness, not illness. Labor, birth, postpartum and newborn care are treated as a normal life events that involve dynamic emotional, social and physical change. Forbes selected the family-centered, single-room maternity care model for the new Center, so each woman's labor and birth care are provided in the same room throughout the hospital stay (unless a cesarean delivery is necessary).
The baby can stay in a bassinet beside mother's bed during the entire stay, but parents have the security of knowing that if they need rest or if complications arise, the baby can be placed in a fully equipped, nine-bed nursery. The Center offers mother/baby nursing care, a unique approach that means the same nurses care for mother, baby and family during the hospital stay. Most care takes place in the LDRP by the mother-baby nurse, who is dedicated to answering questions and sharing knowledge and experience to help parents develop their infant care skills. Internationally certified lactation consultants and specially trained nurses also are available, and these specialists offer the support needed to help new mothers succeed at breast feeding.
Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Special Care Nursery)
The Center's Special Care Nursery, a state-of- the art Level II Neonatal Intensive Care unit, provides medical treatment and care for both premature and acutely ill newborns. The Center is staffed 24 hours a day by board-certified pediatricians and extensively trained registered nurses. This special nursery means that babies who need a higher level of care can be treated right here in
In addition to the Level II nursery at Forbes Regional Hospital, two Level III Neonatal Intensive Care units within the West Penn Hospital system are prepared to accept transfers as required.
The Forbes Regional Hospital Women's and Infants' Care Center focuses on mother and baby as part of a family unit. Center programs integrate the whole family into the care given to mother and infant. Visiting hours are flexible to accommodate the family's routine, and a special afternoon rest period help mom, partner, and baby get the extra rest that is so vital in the early days after birth.
Having a baby isn't an isolated medical procedure. It's a family milestone, and the new Women's and Infants' Care Center at Forbes Regional Hospital offers the highest quality of care in a caring, family-focused setting.
