OB/GYN
Urogynecology
Center for Female Incontinence and Pelvic Health
The Center for Female Incontinence and Pelvic Health is based at West Penn Hospital. Our specialists use advanced technologies and techniques to diagnose and treat urinary incontinence and pelvic floor disorders.
To diagnose incontinence and pelvic floor disorders, a gynecologist will conduct a complete examination, including a series of bladder function tests. One portion of the urodynamic testing process determines the bladder’s ability to store and release urine. Small catheters are used to measure the muscle function of the bladder and urethra. Other testing includes cystoscsopy and EMG.
Through this program, pelvic floor disorders such as urinary incontinence and prolapse can be evaluated and treated.
Other specialists – including gynecologists, gastroenterologists, neurologists, colerectal surgeons, psychologists and social workers – are available for consultation.
Following complete diagnostic evaluation, the urogynecologist refers each patient back to her primary physician with recommendations for treatment. Depending on your diagnosis, your doctor may prescribe a therapy plan that involves medications surgery or lifestyle changes.
