The Western Pennsylvania Hospital has 15 LDRP suites, allowing mothers to remain in one room throughout their labor, delivery and recovery experience. Postpartum rooms are available on E6 and N5. Five of these suites include Jacuzzi tubs, and all suites provide immediate access to critical care facilities for mothers and infants. Operating rooms are available within the unit for emergency cesarean sections.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

The NICU at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital is a 40-bed unit providing the highest level of medical and surgical care available to infants. The distinctive design of West Penn’s NICU features six pods, each of which houses six infant isolettes. In addition, the unit contains an isolation pod with four isolettes to care for babies with infections. The pod design is complemented by indirect lighting to create an environment that promotes the healing and growing process.
Austin's Playroom
West Penn Hospital’s NICU is home to one of one of 27 Austin’s Playrooms in western Pennsylvania. Austin’s Playroom offers a safe, cheerful, calming environment for siblings to helping to make their visit to the hospital as pleasant as possible. Many families find the Playroom to be a blessing especially those caring for a premature infant in the NICU. The Playroom Project was an initiative of the Mario Lemieux Foundation and was born out of personal experience of the Lemieux family while caring for their profoundly premature infant son.
Forbes Regional Hospital

Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum Suite
At Forbes Regional Campus, the new family receives quality, comprehensive care in a setting that feels like home. Our beautiful, spacious LDRP suites are furnished with comfortable birthing/postpartum beds, built-in sleeper-sofas for partners, rocking chairs, armoires with flat screen TVs and VCR/DVD combos and other amenities. Along with these comforts, a state-of-the-art security system is behind the scenes to safeguard the baby at all times.
Normal Newborn/Special Care Nursery
The Center's Special Care Nursery, a state-of-the-art Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, provides medical treatment and care for both premature and acutely ill newborns. The Center is staffed 24 hours a day by board-certified pediatricians and extensively trained registered nurses.
