The distinctive design of West Penn’s NICU features six pods, each of which houses six infant isolettes. In addition, the unit contains an isolation pod with four isolettes to care for babies with infections. The pod design is complemented by indirect lighting to create an environment that promotes the healing and growing process.
West Penn Hospital’s NICU is home to one of one of 27 Austin’s Playrooms in western Pennsylvania. Austin’s Playroom offers a safe, cheerful, calming environment for siblings to helping to make their visit to the hospital as pleasant as possible. Many families find the Playroom to be a blessing especially those caring for a premature infant in the NICU.
