Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy teaches patients self-care skills for daily living. Our therapists help each patient regain their ability to perform such everyday tasks as bathing, eating, preparing meals and doing laundry. Occupational therapists also work to address deficits in problem-solving and memory. They are able to treat upper extremity injuries and work on improving fine motor coordination and strength in the upper extremities and hands.
Our occupational therapists evaluate patients' home environment and home management skills, and they make recommendations for adaptive equipment to compensate for impaired function.
Allegheny Valley Hospital, Canonsburg General Hospital, Forbes Regional Hospital, and West Penn Hospital have simulated living areas for patients to practice everyday activities.
Canonsburg General Hospital offers certified therapists in a manual lymphatic drainage that can treat any diagnosis requiring lymphedema management.
