Description: 

This class is designed for STAR users in need of simulation training prior to teaching in the STAR Center.  In this course, participants are exposed to various types of simulators, task trainers, software and equipment; along with the appropriate usage of each. Depending on the need of specificity, class times range from 1 hour to 2 hours per topic.

Topics include review of the software/equipment and hands-on demonstration/practice of the following STAR simulators and task trainers:

  1. Laerdal SimMan
  2. Laerdal Nursing Anne VitalSim Advanced, ALS Simulator and MegaCode Kid
  3. Laerdal SimNewB
  4. Gaumard Birthing Noelle
  5. Task Trainers
    • Laerdal 12-Lead Task Trainer
    • Laerdal Blood Pressure Trainer
    • Laerdal Virtual I.V. Trainer (Adult and Infant)
    • Laerdal VitalSim Arrhythmia Trainer
    • Laerdal VitalSim Sounds Trainer
    • Limbs and Things PROMPT Birthing Simulator

Learning Objectives:

  • Define what simulation is and how it can be integrated into clinical teaching
  • Demonstrate how to use the STAR simulators, task trainers and equipment, including how to use pre-programmed scenarios
  • demonstrate the ability to operate the STAR simulators, task trainers and equipment
  • Identify the forms required to request and operate a simulation session
