WPAHS Golf Classic Benefits Patients

McKamish FoursomeThis year’s West Penn Allegheny Health System Golf Classic, held on June 17 at the Pittsburgh Field Club, raised nearly $100,000 for the patients of West Penn, Allegheny General, Allegheny Valley and Forbes hospitals. Rich Walsh, sports anchor for WPXI-TV, was the Emcee.

Forbes Health Foundation thanks all of the golfers and sponsors for making the sold-out event such a success and so much fun. We couldn’t have asked for better weather.

Special thanks to this year’s Presenting Sponsor – McKamish whose foursome is pictured here. The 2014 System golf outing will be held on June 9 at the Pittsburgh Field Club. Watch your mail in early 2014 for the 2014 golf brochure.

Employee Campaign Raises $61,115 from 381 Donors

Thanks to the generous Forbes’ employees who helped to raise $61,115 for this year’s Employee Campaign! That total was reached through direct donations to the campaign, raffle ticket sales, and donations raised through the fabulous “Race to the Finish”. Donors to the campaign also increased from 220 last year to 381 this year.

Forbes Health Foundation gives special thanks to Mark Taylor, MD, and Lisa Pristas, CRNA, who co-chaired the campaign and worked hard to spread the word about it and to encourage employees to consider donating to the Foundation. The campaign had 161 new donors this year, so their hard work paid off.

Thanks, too, to our wonderful committee members, who helped to plan and carry out campaign activities and to committee member Maria Synan for organizing our highly successful Race to the Finish, which generated $6,375.

Race to the Finish

New this year was a Race to the Finish, held the last week of the campaign. G&G Fitness donated stationary bikes, and 11 teams of employees pedaled away to raise money and enjoy some friendly competition. The race raised $6,375 for the new Trauma and Injury Prevention Fund.  The Honey Badgers (Anesthesia), led by Mark Taylor, MD, won the silver cup for going the furthest distance.  Pumped Up Chicks & Dan, led by Lynne Struble, won the silver cup for raising the most money.

Forbes Health Foundation Honors Forbes Medical Staff

Doctor's DayMore than 50 physicians attended the 2013 Forbes Health Foundation’s Doctors’ Day breakfast and afternoon dessert reception.

Chef Greg prepared the guests of honor made-to-order omelets – always a favorite at this event. The Foundation presented each physician with a red carnation boutonniere or corsage – the official flower of Doctors’ Day.

Forbes Health Foundation annually hosts these celebrations to honor and salute Forbes physicians. They offer physicians an opportunity to kick back, catch up with colleagues, and enjoy a breakfast tailored to their tastes. Forbes Hospital President and CEO Reese Jackson and Forbes Chief Medical Officer Mark Rubino, MD, attended the breakfast. At the afternoon dessert reception, the physicians who stopped by were treated to cupcakes, coffee, and tea.

The Presidents’ Circle

Corporate presidents and executives who individually or through their corporation contribute $25,000 total or a minimum $5,000 annually to the Foundation’s Capital Campaign in support of quality health care at Forbes Hospital are members of this Circle. Many have contributed considerably more.
