The Western Pennsylvania Hospital Foundation
The Western Pennsylvania Hospital Foundation is the philanthropic resource for The Western Pennsylvania Hospital, a member of the West Penn Allegheny Health System. Established in 1984, The Western Pennsylvania Hospital Foundation operates exclusively for charitable, educational and scientific purposes. All corporate powers of the Foundation are vested in and are exercised by a board of directors that controls and manages the Foundation's property, affairs and funds.
Our Mission
The Western Pennsylvania Hospital Foundation raises, invests and distributes funds in support of The Western Pennsylvania Hospital and the West Penn Allegheny Health System, the Hospitals’ medical programs, patient and family care, research, education and community programs, and provides research administration.

Since its incorporation in 1848 as Pittsburgh's first chartered public hospital, The Western Pennsylvania Hospital (West Penn Hospital) has fostered a legacy of leadership and innovation in medicine. The hospital serves people in Pittsburgh and throughout the tri-state area of Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio and Northern West Virginia. West Penn Hospital, a member of the West Penn Allegheny Health System, is a nonprofit hospital.
