Urogynecology
Through the Continence Program for Women at Allegheny General Hospital, our specialists use advanced technologies and techniques to diagnose and treat urinary incontinence and pelvic floor disorders.
To diagnose incontinence, Allegheny's gynecologists will conduct a complete examination, including a series of bladder function tests. One portion of the urodynamic testing process determines the bladder's ability to store and release urine. Small catheters are used to measure the muscle function of the bladder and urethra. Other testing includes cystoscopy and EMG.
Through this program, pelvic floor disorders such as urinary incontinence and prolapse can be evaluated and treated.
Following complete diagnostic evaluation, each patient is referred back to her primary physician with recommendations for treatment. Depending on your diagnosis, your doctor may prescribe a therapy plan that involves medications, surgery or lifestyle changes.
