Breast-feeding is the most natural and healthiest way to nourish your baby,
as well as the most rewarding for mother.  Like anything new you do,
it is useful to have help and support along the way.  That is why the
Lactation Consultants are available for all your breast-feeding
questions and needs.

Services Offered:

• Assistance with breast-feeding initiation to inpatients, to mothers who
  are separated from their premature babies, and to mothers of multiples.

• Prenatal breast-feeding classes are offered at Allegheny General Hospital. 
  Classes are taught by Lactation Consultants and subjects include: benefits,
  latch on, positioning, supplementing and returning to work.

• Outpatient consults can be scheduled once the mother is at home for special
  circumstances that require additional help.

• Phone consults are available if a mother has a brief question about the breast-feeding
  process once she is at home.

• Assistance in educating residents, medical and nursing students and nursing staff.

Products Offered:

• Rentals of Medela Breast Pumps including Classic and Medela Brands
  (designed to be used for separation of mom and baby or returning to work or school).
  
  
• Sales of Medela Breast Pumps including Mini-Motor, Pump N Style, Double Ease
  (designed for occasional to frequent pumping).
  
  
• A Medela Manual Breast Pump will be provided to breast-feeding mothers upon request
  
• Twin nursing pillows, foot stools and feeding systems are available for sale.
