Technique helps diagnose abnormal bleeding
Abnormal uterine bleeding - which lasts longer or is heavier than usual - is a puzzling health problem affecting many women. One diagnostic tool which can be used to determine the cause of abnormal bleeding is called a hysteroscopy.
"A hysteroscope is a thin, telescope-like instrument that allows doctors to directly view the inside of the uterus," said Eugene Scioscia Jr., M.D., System Vice Chair, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. "The procedure enables doctors to diagnose abnormal bleeding and usually can be performed in the doctor's office, avoiding unnecessary surgery."
