Breastfeeding Urged for First Year


To take full advantage of breastfeeding's nutritional, immunological, psychological and developmental benefits, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that mothers breastfeed at least until the baby's first birthday.

"Now, with all the new research and information physicians have on the advantages of breastfeeding, they can guide parents to make the best feeding choices," said Julie Brown, certified lactation consultant. "These studies once again support the old adage "breast is best." Now it is "best" longer.
