IBS is one of a group of conditions called functional bowel disorders. Through the Functional Bowel Program within the Allegheny Center for Digestive Health, health professionals address the specific concerns and needs of people with moderate to severe cases of IBS and other similar conditions. Patients meet individually with staff from gastroenterology, psychology, nutrition, alternative medicine and the Center for Pain Medicine during a morning session. That afternoon, patients then meet one-on-one with Dr. Lebovitz, who discusses the patient's specific treatment plan developed by the team.
"We believe this is the best approach to ensure that a patient receives assistance from multiple areas in a coordinated way so that all aspects work together for successful treatment," Dr. Lebovitz said.
Women interested in learning more about IBS or the study should contact Kathy Sepesy, Coordinator, or Dr. Lebovitz at (412) 359-8900.
