A mammography platform that makes it possible for an increasing number of large-breasted women to enjoy the benefits of digital mammography is now in use at the West Penn Allegheny Health System, at Allegheny General Hospital, West Penn Hospital and AGH-McCandless.
The GE Senographe Essential improves the standard of care for women around the world. It enhances the way clinicians evaluate women for breast cancer by enhancing image quality, and it meets clinical needs of screening and diagnostic procedures on one system to optimize workflow.
“Digital mammography is changing the way we fight breast cancer,” said William R. Poller, MD, Associate Director of the Breast Care Center and Director of Breast Imaging for the West Penn Allegheny Health System. “Digital mammograms have higher sensitivities for women under 50, women with heterogenous or very dense breast tissue and pre- or perimenopausal women. In addition, digital mammography has made it possible for women to get the results of their mammogram shortly after the test.”
With older forms of digital mammography, the field of view was often so small that large-breasted women had to have several digital images pieced together, or have an analog test performed. Because the Senographe Essential has such a large active field of view, large breasted women now have the option of a fully digital mammogram.
The Senographe Essential’s 24 by 31 centimeter detector size offers the largest active field of view in the industry. It offers better visibility of the breast, quicker exams, fewer patient call-backs and electronic archival of patient images.
