Pre-entrance Examination and Testing ID Number

The Western Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing uses Assessment Technologies Institute LLC (ATI) for standardized testing, including the School's pre-entrance examination and tests administered to students as part of their School curriculum.

  • Applicants - Before registering to take the School's pre-entrance examination, applicants must register online with ATI and obtain a personal, permanent ATI test identification (ID) number.  Those who already have an ATI test ID, please see below to forward results.
  • Students - Registration with ATI is completed only once.  Students must use their personal ATI test ID numbers on every paper-and-pencil test taken during their School of Nursing career.

Following are instructions to obtain a personal, permanent ATI test ID number, followed by information about the School's pre-entrance exam.

Please contact the School with any questions.

ATI Registration and Test ID Number

Please follow the instructions below to register with ATI and obtain your personal ATI test ID number.  Each individual should register only once.  Applicants who already have an ATI test ID number, please go on to the section below, "Pre-entrance Exam":

  • Go to a computer connected to the Internet and also to a printer (to print a record of your ID number, needed for each ATI test).
  • Go to the ATI Web site (www.atitesting.com).
  • Click on " Create New Account " and follow the screen prompts.  The Western Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing is listed on the ATI Web site as "Western PA SON".
  • At completion of the registration process, your personal ATI test ID number will be displayed under "Account Information"; print this screen, so you have a record of your ATI ID number.

Applicants/students must bring their personal ATI test ID numbers with them for each examination at the School.

If you forget your ATI test ID number, go to the ATI Web site and login using the "Forgot Password" feature.

Applicants who have problems should contact the Admissions Office before the Pre-entrance Exam.

Students who have problems should ask their instructor for help before the scheduled exam.

Pre-entrance Examination

The pre-entrance examination for The Western Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing is ATI's Test of Essential Academic Skills (ATI-TEAS).

The ATI-TEAS is a standardized test that measures academic abilities, including reading, mathematics, science, and English.  There are timed sections for each of these areas.

The total time allotted to complete all sections of the ATI-TEAS is 3-1/2 hours.   Each applicant's total score on the ATI-TEAS influences the decision regarding his or her admission to the School of Nursing.  No decisions will be made until the School receives ATI-TEAS results.

For applicants to the School of Nursing who have submitted the $75 application fee, the cost of the ATI-TEAS is included in this fee.

Applicants who have not paid the full application fee need to bring the $25 test fee with them, either in cash or a check made payable to West Penn Hospital School of Nursing.

The School offers the ATI-TEAS at least once a month.

Applicants should call the Admissions Office at 412-578-5538 as soon as possible with any questions and to select a convenient date to take the ATI-TEAS.

IF YOU HAVE TAKEN THE TEAS ELSEWHERE, please e-mail your results from the ATI Web site (www.atitesting.com) to the School's Admissions Office.
