Driving Directions
From the North:
- Follow I-279 South to Route 28 North.
- Cross the 40th Street Bridge.
- Continue on 40th Street to Liberty Ave.
- Turn left onto Liberty Ave.
- The Hospital is located at the intersection of Liberty Ave. and S. Millvale Ave. in Bloomfield.
From the Northeast:
- Follow Route 28 South to the 40th Street Bridge.
- Continue on 40th Street to Liberty Ave.
- Turn left onto Liberty Ave.
- The Hospital is located at the intersection of Liberty Ave. and S. Millvale Ave. in Bloomfield.
From the East:
- Follow I-376 West to Wilkinsburg Exit.
- Follow Ardmore Blvd. (Rte. 8) to Penn Ave. to Fifth Ave.
- Turn left onto Fifth Ave. and follow to S. Aiken Ave.
- Turn right onto S. Aiken and follow to Baum Blvd.
- Bear right onto Liberty Ave.
- The Hospital is located at the intersection of Liberty Ave. and S. Millvale Ave. in Bloomfield.
From the South:
- Follow Route 51 north to West Liberty Ave.
- Turn right onto West Liberty Ave. , through the Liberty Tunnel and across the Liberty Bridge.
- Follow I-579 North (signs to the Mellon Arena) to the Bigelow Blvd. Exit.
- Follow Bigelow Blvd., take the Liberty Ave./Bloomfield Exit, and cross the Bloomfield Bridge.
- Bear right at the end of bridge onto Liberty Ave.
- The Hospital is located at the intersection of Liberty Ave. and S. Millvale Ave. in Bloomfield.
From the West and Pittsburgh International Airport:
- Follow Route 60 South to I-279 North (no turns, only name change).
- Follow I-279 North through Fort Pitt Tunnel and across Fort Pitt Bridge.
- Take Liberty Ave. exit.
- Follow Liberty Ave. through Pittsburgh to Bloomfield.
- The Hospital is located at the intersection of Liberty Ave. and S. Millvale Ave. in Bloomfield.
Airport Taxi or Bus to West Penn Hospital
From Pittsburgh International Airport using Port Authority buses (between about 6 a.m. and midnight):
- Catch the 28X Airport Flyer bus at the lower level ground transportation area. This is right next to the baggage claim area. A bus leaves the airport about every 30 minutes between about 6 a.m. and midnight. The one-way cost to Bloomfield is $2.85 (including a transfer ticket, which you will need).
- The 28X will take you in to Downtown Pittsburgh. There, you must exit the bus at the Liberty Avenue and Wood Street stop (directly in front of the Wood Street "T" (subway) station).
- At that stop you can transfer to the 86A East Hills bus that will take you to the hospital. The 86 A runs about every 45 minutes between about 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. (Sundays)or midnight (other days). Use your transfer to take this bus out Liberty Avenue to South Millvale Avenue - directly across the street from West Penn Hospital. The main entrance to West Penn Hospital is on South Millvale Avenue about 1/2 block north from the intersection with Liberty Avenue.
Other options from the Airport:
- Taxis are available at the ground transportation area of the airport at all times. The following taxi service operators have secured a permit from the Allegheny County Airport Authority to provide commercial ground transportation on Pittsburgh International Airport property. A July 2008 estimated fare from the airport to West Penn Hospital is approximately $50 PLUS tip, depending on traffic and weather conditions. Please check with the cab company directly to determine the cost at the time of your trip.

- If you use a taxi to get back to the airport, you will need to call and order one.
- There are a number of private companies that offer limousine service from the airport, including Classic Limousine (1-800-360-1520) and Embassy Coach (412-444-4444).
Parking
For the convenience and safety of patients and visitors, The Western Pennsylvania Hospital maintains a spacious, well-lighted Parking Complex on the corner of Liberty and South Millvale Avenues. The Parking Complex is open 24 hours a day and is patrolled by the Hospital's Security Department.
Patients and visitors may also park in the shuttle-serviced lot in Lawrenceville, which is open from 5 a.m. until midnight, weekdays only (no weekends or holidays).
PARKING COMPLEX
The Western Pennsylvania Hospital Parking Complex is located across South Millvale Avenue from the Hospital, on the corner of Liberty Avenue.
Patients and visitors may enter the Hospital directly from the Parking Complex through an enclosed pedestrian walkway, called the Skywalk. The Skywalk links the top floor of the Parking Complex to the second floor of Mellon Pavilion, which connects to all areas of the Hospital. An Information Desk is staffed at the Skywalk to provide directions or information.

Nights (5 p.m. to 5 a.m.), 7 days/week (including holidays): $1.00/hour up to a $5.00 maximum.
Lost tickets will be charged the 24-hour rate.
To Pay for Parking in the Parking Complex
Before exiting the Parking Complex, visitors must take their parking tickets for processing to the Central Cashier's Office or the Self-Pay Station located on the 2nd floor of the Parking Complex at the end of the Skywalk.
Discounted Parking Programs
For the added service and convenience of our patients and visitors, The Western Pennsylvania Hospital provides the following discount parking programs.
- A $3.00 maximum rate for a visit to a physician's office or for surgical or medical outpatient procedures. Tickets must be validated at the physician's office or outpatient department.
- Free parking for patients who visit the Hospital more than once a week for outpatient procedures or for regular procedures including chemotherapy, dialysis and cardiac rehabilitation. Tickets must be validated at the department where the procedures are performed.
- A $3.00 maximum rate for family members visiting patients with an extended length of stay greater than 10 days. Discounted tickets must be purchased from the Parking Services Department, (412) 578-1803.
- A $5.00 maximum parking rate for patients between 5 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Free parking on the day of inpatient discharge. The validation can be obtained at the Central Cashiers Office, located on the top floor (level 2) of the Parking Complex.
Please note: Tickets validated by physician's offices or outpatient departments are good for discounted parking, not free parking.
SHUTTLE LOT
The Western Pennsylvania Hospital maintains a parking lot in Lawrenceville, approximately 2 miles from the Hospital. Patients and visitors may park for free in the lot and take a free shuttle to the Hospital. This lot is open and the shuttle operates weekdays (no weekends or holidays) from 5 a.m. to midnight.
