Clinical Observing (Shadowing) Opportunities

If you are interested in gaining clinical exposure in the field of medicine by observing healthcare workers “on the job,” The Western Pennsylvania Hospital is the place! Call the Volunteer Services Department at 412-578-5313 to initiate your shadowing request. College students may shadow for a maximum of 16 hours per calendar year. High school students may shadow for a maximum of 8 hours per calendar year. A minimum of 4 hours is requested.

If the Volunteer Services Department is able to identify a mentor for you, you will be notified and an orientation packet will be sent to you prior to your observation experience. After reviewing the packet, please complete the necessary forms (Conditions of Participation Agreement, Confidentiality Statement, Proof of Immunity and Orientation Quiz) and fax or mail them back to the Volunteer Services Department at least one week prior to your observation experience.
