The Western Pennsylvania Cancer Institute (WPCI) provides patients with exceptional cancer care from diagnosis through every phase of treatment and follow-up care. The institute is accredited from the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS)  and the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy demonstrating commitment to providing the best cancer diagnosis and treatment.

The multidisciplinary team and services offered at West Penn Hospital Cancer Institute includes radiology imaging technology, surgical specialists, stem cell transplantation specialists, radiation oncology, medical oncology, and gynecologic oncology services.

Discovering cancer early is targeted as West Penn Hospital (WPH) offers high quality images and services including Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanners.

The surgical specialists have advanced training in the latest techniques to combat colorectal, breast, thoracic, pancreatic, hepatobiliary, urologic, and head and neck cancers to take a leading role in the care of their patients, offering state of the art care and access to the latest clinical trials of surgical techniques. 

We are proud to offer minimally invasive robotic surgery with the da Vinci surigcal system for patients requiring hysterectomy or radical prostatectomy.

The Cell Transplantation Program at WPCI guides patients through all phases of transplantation from marrow and blood collection to processing, transplantation, and follow-up care. The center has grown to be one of the region’s largest, performing more than 80 blood and marrow transplants annually.

WPH medical oncologists work in close collaboration with patients’ primary care physicians and specialists from the time of initial examination to provide diagnostic and treatment services as close to the patient’s home as possible. Once a diagnosis is determined, patients can often receive specialized hematology and oncology care and the latest chemotherapy techniques from our medical oncologists throughout the region.

The Radiation Oncology Department at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital uses state-of-the-art expertise and equipment to provide medical evaluation, treatment planning and radiotherapy in a caring, patient-centered environment.

Additional specialized services include access to more than 100 clinical research trials are available to patients through the Oncology Protocol Office, a Medical Short Stay Center which is open 24 hours a day, six days a week to care for patients requiring short-term medical care, and throughout the process Social Services and Pastoral Care provide support to patients and their families.
