Foundation Golf Classic Raises $118,000 for Patients

Dr. Lister

Thanks to the 114 golfers who turned out for the Foundation’s 12th Annual Golf Classic at the Pittsburgh Field Club on September 21st and helped to raise $118,000 for patient programs.

The event included 18 holes of golf, skill competitions, raffles, a silent auction, and a dinner program emceed by KDKA Sportscaster Bob Pompeani. Foundation President and Chief Executive Officer B.J. Leber welcomed the golfers and turned the program over to Dr. John Lister, who talked about West Penn’s stem cell transplant program and the importance of West Penn Manor to those patients from outside the area who are in Pittsburgh for lengthy treatments and need to stay close to the hospital.

West Penn Manor has 12 private apartments. However, only five apartments currently are usable. Renovations to modernize and improve the building will include the addition of an elevator, new lighting, flooring, air conditioning and heating, upgraded laundry facilities, an intercom system and wireless Internet access, new furnishings, appliances, TVs, DVD players, kitchenware, and window treatments.

Thanks to all who joined us for this year’s golf event, and be sure to mark your calendars for next year’s Golf Classic, which will be held at the Pittsburgh Field Club on September 20, 2010.
