Summer Camp for Burned Children

2009 Summer Camp kicks off at Kennywood Park
Summer Camp for Burned Children
West Penn Burn Center holds its annual Summer Camp for Burned Children the first week of June. An average of forty campers, ages 7-17, attend the five-day camp at YMCA Camp Kon-O-Kwee in Fombell, Pennsylvania. Campers enjoyed a fun-filled week of activities free because of generous donations!
Some of the generous supporters of Burn Camp also participate in the camp experience. The campers were also treated to special activities courtesy of the Pittsburgh FOOLS and other firefighters. The firefighters arrange for a special carnival and cookout with rides, games, and crafts. Campers get to participate in another of their favorite activities with the firefighters—fishing. For many of the firefighters, Burn Camp is an annual activity that they look forward to.
The inclusive atmosphere at camp is definitely the best part of the week. Campers feel free to swim, hike, play, and race with other children that wear pressure dressings and understand the pain of being stared at. Many of the camp counselors or counselors in training are burn survivors themselves.
Thank you to all of the supporters of Burn Camp. With your generous donations the campers are able to have a fun and exciting week!
