Breast
Diagnostic Imaging
The Western Pennsylvania Hospital's Breast
Diagnostic Imaging Center, established in 1985, was the first
center in the region devoted to screening and diagnosis of the
breast. It also was first to be accredited by the American College
of Radiology, the Food and Drug Administration and the Mammography
Quality Standards Act.
The
Center provides the most advanced imaging services for breast
screening and diagnosis with special attention to patient care
and comfort. In addition to offering imaging services, the Center
conducts research, tests new tools and techniques, and educates
future caregivers. The Breast Care
Fund can assist patients with the cost of their care.

Burn
Center
The West Penn Burn Center is the largest and most sophisticated
burn care facility in the tri-state area and is the only American
Burn Association-accredited burn unit in Pittsburgh. The Burn
Center is a national leader in burn care teaching and research.
A dedicated
multidisciplinary team of medical and paramedical professionals
with expertise in burn care provides the most advanced care and
treatment for all types of burns, as well as emotional and psychological
counseling, nutrition planning, and physical and occupational
therapy. In addition, special programs are offered for pediatric
patients, including the Children's Playroom, the Back-to-School
Program and Summer Camp for Burned Children.

Cancer Institute
Founded in 1990, the Western Pennsylvania Cancer Institute provides
the latest approaches for the treatments of all types of cancer,
and has earned national recognition as a leader in bone marrow
transplantation.
Cardiovascular
Institute
The Western Pennsylvania Cardiovascular
Institute is renowned for excellence in diagnosis and treatment
of heart disease and cardiovascular disorders.
Center
for Lung and Thoracic Disease
The center provides comprehensive clinical
services for the treatment of lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies.

Foot
and Ankle Institute
A comprehensive center for the complete
care of the foot, ankle, and lower leg. The Podiatric Residency
program offers members of industry the opportunity to be Partners
in Education.

Orthopedics
Recognizing the need that exists for quality
programs for total and partial joint replacement, The Western
Pennsylvania Hospital has created a unique,
comprehensive approach that strives to reinforce an attitude of
wellness among patients and encourage recovery and resumption
of daily activities. The Joint Care Center at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital has developed a comprehensive clinical program for joint replacement patients.

Joslin
Center for Diabetes
The Joslin Center for Diabetes is one of
12 affiliates in the United States of the world renowned Joslin
Diabetes Center in Boston. The Joslin Center offers patients important
innovations in diabetes care.

Women's
and Infant's Health Services
West Penn is known for its high-risk obstetrics
and maternal-fetal medicine programs. Physicians have special
expertise in diabetes and hypertension in pregnancy, fetal therapy
and pre-term birth. More than 1,000 infants are evaluated each
year at West Penn's Infant
Apnea Center.
The
Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides the
highest level of care available and is one of the region’s
largest referral sources for sick newborns. The NICU offers technologically
advanced medical care to acutely ill mothers and babies from the
tri-state area. The NICU also serves critically ill newborns transferred
from outlying areas by the hospital’s neonatal transport
team.
